SFHA comment ahead of Stage 3 Debate on Housing (Scotland) Bill

Commenting ahead of the Stage 3 Debate on the Housing (Scotland) Bill, Andy Young, Policy and Membership Manager at the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) said:

“While we are delighted that the Right to Buy in Scotland is being brought to an end - the SFHA and our members have campaigned for its abolition for years and we congratulate the Scottish Parliament for bringing about its demise - we feel that a two year notice period is excessive. The Parliament’s own Infrastructure and Capital Investment Committee listened closely to the evidence we put forward and agreed with us that the implementation of a one year notice period would strike a fair balance between giving tenants a reasonable opportunity to exercise their residual right to buy and allowing landlords and their lenders a degree of certainty about their stock levels fairly quickly.
