This year, the Scottish Rural and Islands Housing Conference (formerly RIHAF) is to be hosted by the Cairngorms National Park Authority. The event will cover a range of topical issues concerning rural housing in Scotland.  As ever, the conference aims to update and inform delegates of the changes and initiatives that are taking place, and to provide an opportunity for frank and open debate.

This year’s conference, will be held at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort. The resort lies at the heart of Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands.  Accommodation will be in the 4-star Highlands Hotel; the resort’s signature hotel.

There will be a range of issues to be discussed and debated over the two days of the conference, including:

  • discussion on what is happening in rural Scotland
  • whether mid-market rents have a place in rural communities
  • energy efficiency
  • the future for HAG
  • new ways with private finance

The keynote address of the conference will be given on Austerity Countryside by Mark Shucksmith of the University of Newcastle and Advisor to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
