In the 21st century, Scotland’s approach to tackling homelessness has been very significantly modernised through the recommendations of the Homelessness Task Force; through legislative change in the Housing (Scotland) Action 2001 and the Homelessness etc (Scotland) 2003 as well as broader guidance on homelessness prevention from the Scottish Government and COSLA in 2009.
While local authorities retain their strategic and operational lead roles in responding to the new homelessness agenda, they very much rely on strong partnership working with housing associations and co-operatives.
The SFHA, assisted by some funding from Glasgow City Council, has commissioned some guidance on preventing and alleviating homelessness, the first such guidance in Scotland aimed specifically at housing associations and co-operatives.
This half-day session will hear from the authors of the guidance, Isobel Anderson and Jenny Tate of the University of Stirling, who will guide delegates through the key sections of the guidance.

The event will take place on Friday 27 August from 9.30am until 1.00pm in the Buchanan Suite of the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Located in the city centre, the Royal Concert Hall is only a short walk away from both Queen Street and Central Stations as well as Buchanan Street Bus Station and the Glasgow Subway network.
