Despite the best efforts of a succession of targeted community regeneration programmes, stark inequalities between communities persist. There are still too many communities in Scotland experiencing very high levels of multiple deprivation relative to their neighbours.
Housing associations and cooperatives play a key role in supporting community regeneration and tackling poverty but the problem persists, and indeed is looking like it is getting worse, so what more can we do to combat poverty in our communities?
What policy and strategy interventions do we need to be making at national and local level? What role is there for a National Minimum Income Standard?
Being run in partnership with The Poverty Alliance this one day conference aims to examine how housing association and housing cooperative staff and management boards can make stronger links with their local authority and third sector partners to work towards the common goal of eliminating poverty and social exclusion in Scotland.
Delegates will hear from leading figures within Scottish Government and local authorities about the role housing associations can play in reducing poverty in our communities and speakers will include the Scottish Government, The Poverty Alliance and Scottish Poverty Information Unit as well as a practical look at initiatives being taken forward by housing associations at the coalface.
The event is aimed at all organisations and associates with an interest in combating poverty in Scotland. It is also aimed at all senior staff and committee members working within the social housing sector, as well as officers and managers working within housing management.
Come along and have a chance to influence the evolving policy agenda and learn how your organisation can influence positive change in your communities.
Places are being offered for this event from £175 per person (£215.00 for non members) and includes lunch as well as attendance at the event. The conference will be held in Glasgow on Thursday 30 September 2010.
The programme will be available shortly but to register your interest please contact the SFHA Events Team at events@sfha.co.uk or telephone Anita Harvey on 0141 567 6085.
