
REGENERATION, second stage transfer and housing association funding were just a few of the topics debated at a packed SFHA Housing Hustings.
More than 60 people attended the event on Monday evening to grill the main candidates in the Glasgow East by-election.
Margaret Curran, Labour; John Mason, SNP; Davena Rankin, Scottish Conservatives and Eileen Duke, Scottish Green Party, fielded questions from the audience at the Fullarton Park Hotel, Glasgow.
The event was chaired by SFHA chairman Brian Gegan who is also Chief Executive of Cairn Housing Association.
Mr Gegan said: “We had a tremendous turn out at this successful hustings and it produced some very lively debate. I’d like to thank SFHA members for their support and the candidates for their attendance.

Last year, SURF hosted a successful conference on "Football and Regeneration" that focused on the shared goals for Scotland's professional football clubs and regeneration sectors.
This is a follow-up "second leg" event on the relationship between community football clubs and social & economic regeneration. There will be a monthly interview with Jacqui Watt, SFHA Chief Executive, on major housing issues in Scotland.
Housing Scotland TV will provide the latest housing news from around the country. For instance, there shall be broadcasts on individual housing associations in Scotland; where they are and what they do.
There will also be opportunities for Commercial Members to promote their products and services to the sector via this exciting new medium.

The winner for the 2008 Housing Scotland Award went to Isabelle Barr of Abertay Housing Association. Isabelle was nominated for her work at Dryburgh Gardens sheltered complex in Dundee, where she has been the scheme manager since 2000. The award, sponsored by SFHA Diamond Insurance was presented to Isabelle by SFHA Chief Executive Jacqui Watt at SFHAs Annual Conference Gala Dinner on Monday night.

The Deputy First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, today addressed the SFHA’s Annual Conference, telling delegates from across the housing sector in Scotland and beyond that while their role was invaluable, the affordable housing sector had to concentrate on making efficiencies.
