What is Shared Equity / LIFT?

Shared Equity is a scheme set up by the Government which allows people who can't afford to buy a suitable home themselves to buy a home jointly with a housing association, a housing developer or the Government.  It is sometimes called LIFT, short for Low-cost Initiative for First Time buyers, although people are sometimes eligible even if they are not first time buyers.

You can find out more details about the scheme on the website of Link Housing Association.  (Their webpage talks specifically about Link, so where it says "us" it means Link HA, but the information it give applies to all Shared Equity schemes.)

You can also download a Government information brochure about the LIFT scheme.
