The SFHA has welcomed Shelter Scotland's latest report on evictions released today (Tuesday 24th January 2012) , which shows a near 20% drop in evictions by Scotland's housing associations and co-operatives.
Andy Young, SFHA Policy & Strategy Manager said:
"The SFHA welcomes the 19% reduction in evictions by housing associations and co-operatives. Considering this follows a huge 38% reduction last year, this shows significant progress, particularly in such troubled economic times.
"There has also been a similar reduction in the number of notices served by Scotland's housing associations and co-operatives, and this has been achieved by the sharing of good practice on prevention.
But he warned:
"However, the welfare reforms currently being proposed by the Westminster Coalition Government will limit the Housing Benefit of some of the most vulnerable tenants and make life more difficult for them financially, and in apying their rent."
