SFHA Welcomes Appointment of Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure & Capital Investment

The SFHA has welcomed the appointment of former  Housing Minister Alex Neil to Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure & Capital Investment.

SFHA Chief Executive Mary Taylor said:

"The SFHA congratulates Alex Neil, an energetic and respected former housing minister, on his promotion to Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Capital Investment.

"We are also pleased that housing investment will be part of his new remit and has been promoted to a cabinet level responsibility.

"Last year's cuts in capital investment have hit housing associations and co-operatives, the main developers of new affordable housing in Scotland, hard.

"Housing providers also face a range of challenges, outwith the development of new homes. These include improving the energy efficiency of existing homes, and adapting homes and providing support services for the elderly and disabled.

"We look forward to working with the new Cabinet Secretary and the new Housing Minister closely on these issues in the years to come."
