The Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA) has welcomed an announcement from Cabinet Secretary for Infrastructure and Capital investment Alex Neil, of a 35% increase in Scottish Government funding for fuel poverty programmes.
David Stewart, SFHA Policy & Strategy Manager, said:
"Fuel poverty is a serious problem affecting at least a third of Scottish households (2) - many of whom are tenants of housing associations and co-operatives.
"As a member of the Fuel Poverty Forum and a long-standing campaigner for action to tackle fuel poverty, the SFHA welcomes this significant extra investment by the Scottish Government in tackling the scourge of fuel poverty. We are also pleased to see the partial reversal of cuts to the programme made in 2010/11, which is welcome in tough financial times.
"In order to properly deal with fuel poverty, Scotland needs a national programme to insulate housing, improve energy efficiency and reduce energy usage that is properly funded."
