Super Sponsor Scheme and Homes for Ukraine

Udated guidance on the Ukraine Super Sponsor Scheme for local authorities and for hosts.

Posted In

The Scottish government has updated guidance on the Ukraine Super Sponsor Scheme for local authorities and for hosts who provide accommodation through the super sponsor scheme. The super sponsor scheme is designed to help displaced people from Ukraine to apply for visas by removing the need for applicants to be matched with a host prior to being given permission to travel to the UK.

Refugees arriving in Scotland will be accommodated temporarily in Welcome Hubs, where they will then be matched either to longer-term accommodation, including from members of the public who volunteer rooms, or properties for people to live in. The guidance for hosts sets out the process they will need to follow, including property and safeguarding checks as well as offering advice on their role as hosts and wider support.

The Scottish Refugee Council also has a free helpline for Ukrainian refugees in Scotland to provide practical support and advice. You can also contact 0808 1967 274 or email ukraine@scottishrefugeecouncil.org.uk

The guidance for local authorities sets out how the Scottish Government, working in partnership with COSLA, expects the scheme to operate and the funding available to support their work locally. On housing, local authorities are expected to work with the matching scheme to provide accommodation from across different tenures, including social housing, where this is available.
