Link gets Orchard Care residents twiddling

Residents of Orchard Care Home in Rosyth have no excuse for twiddling their thumbs after they received a donation of ‘twiddle muffs’ from LinkLiving’s Older Persons’ service.

The donation, from the Link Group subsidiary, followed the efforts of LinkLiving service users and volunteers who brought their needles and yarn together to knit for people living with dementia.

Twiddle muffs are knitted bands with items such as ribbons, beads and buttons attached, which are proven to be both comforting and stimulating to people with dementia.

Sylvia, a member of LinkLiving’s Older Persons’ service and one of the knitters, said: “It feels nice to be able to give something back to the community. I understand how hard it is to care for someone with dementia, with my husband having lived with it, and I personally found the twiddle muffs to be very helpful.”

LinkLiving's Older Persons’ service is an award-winning project which delivers opportunities to participate in meaningful activities. Its social cafes and one-to-one befriending service give older people much needed companionship and support to become more involved in their local communities.
