SHARE announces the very sad passing of Director, Alan Ferguson.

It is with a heavy heart that SHARE announces the very sad passing of Director, Alan Ferguson.

Alan had been diagnosed with cancer only a few short months previously and had continued to live with dignity as the disease took hold.

Alan was with SHARE for six years and was instrumental in turning the organisation around and building the current team.

Alan was always available to lend a hand or offer support when needed. He was a kind and thoughtful man, a great leader and colleague, and he could always lighten the mood with his great sense of humour. Many will be able to imagine what he would be saying about all this!

Alan had a vast network of friends and colleagues and was well liked and respected throughout the sector, with many having lots of stories about him personally and his career. Many of which we are sure you will be reading about soon.

Alan started his career as a community development worker in Rutherglen and Cambuslang, many moons ago and that is where he first met his wife, Jenny.

Alan had been a policy officer at CIH before heading to Stirling University to lecture in housing. He joined the Board of CIH and went on to become their Director for Scotland. He had also been a board member with Link, Cube and Southside Housing Associations and also Govanhill Community Development Trust.

One partnership he was fundamental in developing was PATH Scotland, where he was both a trustee and office bearer. He was also a founding member of TPAS Scotland. Alan also supported other organisations such as EVH where he helped turn their study exchange visits with French organisation, PACT ARIM, into a useful and successful exchange on housing policy and practice.

Alan had a long career in housing, and it was a great passion of his. He knew so many people in the sector and the thoughts and best wishes the team at SHARE is receiving is a fantastic tribute to Alan. He touched the lives of so many people in the sector, and he will be sorely missed.

Alan will be sadly missed by all the team at SHARE, and we send our heartfelt condolences to Jenny and family at this really difficult time.
