Anderston transformation sees Sanctuary triumph at Homes for Scotland Awards
Sanctuary’s £60 million project beat five other outstanding developments to the honour at an awards ceremony in Edinburgh.
Sanctuary is celebrating after its regeneration of Glasgow’s Anderston received further recognition as Homes for Scotland’s Affordable Housing Development of the Year.
The £60 million project beat five other outstanding developments to the honour at an awards ceremony in Edinburgh.
Friday’s win follows the excellence in regeneration award Anderston received from CIH Scotland last November.
Over a 10-year period Sanctuary Scotland worked with the local community, Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council to transform Anderston by building 540 affordable homes, creating public realm space and restoring the area’s original 1960s street plan.
Community-led public art was complemented with a statue of renowned artist and architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh and a mural of comedian Billy Connolly.
The regeneration was built by CCG and designed by three different architects – MAST, Cooper Cromar and Collective Architecture.
Peter Martin, Sanctuary’s Group Director – Development, said: “We’re thrilled our regeneration of Anderston has been recognised with a Homes for Scotland award.
“The area’s transformation was very much a team effort. The community played an important, influential role, and we also received significant support from Glasgow City Council.
“Anderston shows how regeneration can reinvigorate a Glasgow community. We look forward to building on the project’s success with the redevelopment of the former Victoria Infirmary in the city’s south side.”
