Atrium plans new Shortlees development

Atrium submitted a planning application to East Ayrshire Council in July 2018 for a mixture of flats, houses and bungalows.

Atrium Homes has announced plans to build 27 new properties in Shortlees, Kilmarnock.

Atrium submitted a planning application to East Ayrshire Council in July 2018 for a mixture of flats, houses and bungalows to meet demand from smaller households, on a site close to the centre of the Shortlees community. Part of the site is occupied currently by 8 Atholl Steel cottage flats which will be demolished to make way for the new units, and Atrium has been liaising closely with the affected tenants.

Atrium’s Director of Investment, Celia Taylor explained:

“This is a complex development and the formal submission of a planning application is the culmination of a lot of work. We are working closely with the affected households to find them suitable alternative accommodation.

“Some are being decanted and will eventually move back to new homes; but for others this will be a permanent move so getting it right for everyone is crucial”.

The development comes fast on the back of another project in Shortlees which saw 43 new units handed over in April 2018.

Subject to planning approval and demolitions, work on this next phase of development should commence early in 2019.
