Barrhead Housing Association has announced the launch of an exciting, new tenancy sustainment project in Barrhead called DIY Dunterlie. The project has been designed to help local residents develop new skills and interests which can impact positively on their lives.

DIY Dunterlie will launch with a fun-filled day of free taster activities on Saturday 8 September at Dunterlie Community Centre between 11am and 3pm.

Activities on offer will include learning circus skills with Circus Sensible; den building and seed bombing with The Conservation Volunteers (TCV); and participating in a community fence painting initiative led by local artists. Cycle for Good will also provide free cycle check-ups and maintenance with their Dr Bike service.

There will also be the opportunity to access specialist advice on personal and career development; money management; and welfare rights, as well as sample a range of skills-based workshops in cooking, digital, environmental/interior design and creative upcycling.

Pulse FM will be broadcasting live from the event whilst street food vendor Food in the Hood will be providing Barrhead burgers between 1pm and 3pm.

The DIY Dunterlie project is supported by the Aspiring Communities European Social Fund operated by the Scottish Government, so the programme of workshops, activities and events planned for delivery in 2018 and 2019 will be free to access.

James Ward, Barrhead Housing Association Director of Asset Management, said:

“BHA are delighted to have secured the funding to establish a tenancy sustainability project within the Dunterlie Resource Centre. Working in partnership with local residents, community groups and partner organisations we hope to help improve the range of services and opportunities available to the local community and increase the activities based at the Dunterlie Resource Centre.”

Rena McGuire of Dunterlie Tenants & Residents group agreed, adding:

“This funding opportunity is great news for the Dunterlie area, as this will allow residents within our community to link into existing services and to access new and exciting services that may help them into employment in the future.”
