The Lord Provost of Dundee, Ian Borthwick, joined residents of Caledonia’s Martingale Gardens in Dundee for an afternoon tea to mark its 30th anniversary.

Following sandwiches, strawberries and cream, and teas and coffees, the Lord Provost cut a pearlised 30th celebration cake created to mark the occasion, sitting alongside Marion Montgomerie, a resident at Martingale Gardens since it first opened in 1987 and Irene Handy, Scheme Manager.

Lord Provost of Dundee Ian Borthwick said:

“It was a great pleasure to come here today, to meet the residents and meet Marion, an original resident.

“It was lovely to see and catch up with so many residents that I have worked with at the council over the years – and some residents that I had been at school with.

“The care at Martingale Gardens is exceptional from what I can see, and I wish Caledonia Housing Association another 30 years of continued success at Martingale Gardens.”

Irene Handy, Scheme Manager, said:

“Martingale Gardens is a lovely place; I’ve been happy working here for 21 years and have seen a lot of changes over the years. It’s lovely to have such a fantastic turn out today to celebrate our anniversary.”

Marion Montgomerie, a resident at Martingale Gardens, said:

“I’ve been very happy here. I’m thankful I applied to live her. It’s been a great 30 years.”

The event was topped off by Harry McFagen, from Music in Hospitals, who led a sing along to Caledonia.

Gill Donoghue, Head of Support Services for Caledonia Housing Association, said:

“It’s lovely to mark the 30th anniversary of Martingale. Many of the staff remember Martingale Gardens opening and remember fondly lots of the residents who have called it home. It is a lovely development, and we look forward to many more celebrations in years to come as Caledonia continues to provide homes and services that make life better for many residents and tenants across Scotland.”
