Clyde Valley Group Staff Generous Donation to Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust

LCCT is a volunteer driver service for cancer patients who live within the NHS Lanarkshire Area.

During 2018–19, CVG staff supported Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust (LCCT) as its annual staff charity.

LCCT is a volunteer driver service for cancer patients who live within the NHS Lanarkshire Area. During the financial year April 2017 to March 2018, LCCT transported 13,320 cancer patients to their hospital/day care appointments. During this period, LCCT travelled 449,835 miles at a cost of £143,947. This equates to LCCT drivers driving round the world 16 times, something that they are particularly proud of.

LCCT has to find 85% of their total costs to keep their service on the road. These funds come from people who use the service, people who fundraise on their behalf, their own fundraising events and organisations that support the trust over a longer period.

Over the course of the year, CVG donated 120 car winter safety packs and thermal mugs for all the volunteer drivers who give up their time to ensure patients get to their appointments. The drivers were delighted with these items, and one driver wrote a thank you and said: “It was extremely thoughtful and kind of the association to give us all the useful items needed in an emergency situation such as they had down in Devon recently.

“My own snow shovel is usually in the garage at home, and I often mean to pack a torch and a flask of tea.”

The staff also donated selection boxes for the children’s Christmas party.

The total money raised by CVG staff was £2,669, which exceeded CVG’s target set of £2,100, which was set to mark LCCT’s 21st Anniversary.

On 16 September 2019 Marie McCann, Community Liaison Officer, attended CVG’s Pre AGM meeting to receive the cheque. She said:

“LCCT are so grateful for the work of CVG staff during the year and the support they have provided in terms of winter pack for drivers and cash donation towards the cost of such a valuable service.”

Lynn Wassell, CEO of CVG, said: “I am overwhelmed at the generosity of the staff who have donated during the year, supported the fundraising activity and contributed via payroll giving.

“To select such a wonderful charity, and beat the target set, is a testament to how our staff approach everything they do. I am very proud.”
