Cunninghame Housing Association held an official ceremony on Wednesday 16 March to celebrate the completion of its 300th new-build home for social rent in Dumfries and Galloway.

CHA’s Board of Management, Frank Sweeney – Group Chief Executive, Councillor Archie Dryburgh MBE – Housing Convenor, and invited guests gathered to celebrate the occasion at Hall meadow in Annan and to hand over a ceremonial key to Michelle Scaife, the lucky 300th tenant.

The CHA Hallmeadow site commenced in July 2020 and will deliver a total of 130 new homes with 69 properties already handed over and works scheduled for completion in October this year. Working in partnership with Homes4 D&G, all properties are being allocated to applications selected from the Common Housing Register.

Since 2017, Cunninghame Housing Association has been working in partnership with Dumfries and Galloway council and Scottish Government as a development partner to deliver affordable housing across the Dumfries and Galloway region. This partnership has resulted in the following projects at various stages of delivery and completion:

  • Halcrow Phase 1, Gretna – 90 new homes
  • High Street, Annan, 27 new homes
  • Windermere Road, Annan – 60 new homes
  • Lockerbie Academy – 45 new homes
  • Hallmeadow, Annan – 130 new homes – partially complete, onsite at present
  • Heathhall, Dumfries – 64 new homes – onsite at present

This represents a total of 416 new homes either completed or on site at the stage. As well as the above projects, the association also has development scheduled to start in 2022/23 in the following areas:

  • Site in Eastriggs (70 homes)
  • Halcrow, Gretna – Phase 3 and 4 (93 homes)

This additional 163 units scheduled for approval in 2022/23 will bring the total to 579 new homes available for social rent in the region by Cunninghame Housing Association.

Frank Sweeney, Group Chief Executive Officer, said: “Housing investment has always had a big impact on communities and sometimes we do not fully appreciate what levels of housing investment in new-build housing can achieve.

"Our ability to deliver in Dumfries and Galloway has been made possible by the support we have received from our strategic partners, local councillors and MSPs and all the wards we have and are working in.

“The development at Hallmeadow will see us taking handover of the 300th new home that Cunninghame Housing Association has provided since coming another region five years ago, today is about celebrating this milestone.Three-hundredth new tenant Michelle Scaife received her keys on 3 March 2022, and she recently moved in with her family. We wish them every good wish in their new home.”

Archie Dryburgh MBE – Housing Convenor said:” this site at home Meadow will provide high-quality homes within walking distance of the train station and local schools, enabling residents to easily access the services they need on a daily basis.

"We are all aware of spiralling living costs being experienced due to rising fuel and energy bills, plus growing demand through services like homelessness and housing options.Building on the scale seen here, will ease some of this pressure on around 130 families, significantly improving their living conditions.

"I would like to thank Cunninghame Housing Association. They have shown their commitment to supporting Council objectives, through this development in Annan, and others in Lockerbie and Gretna, through the provision of much needed affordable housing. I look forward to seeing more developments like this come forward.”
