Elderpark complete housing development in Govan
Final tenants move in to their new Elderpark homes
A new housing development in Govan from Elderpark Housing has been completed. The final tenants have been given the keys to their new homes. They have moved into the £11 million development of properties at Nethan Street.
The homes have been built within sight of Govan Cross and create a 'stylish' addition to the community with a distinctive curved building of 70 apartments and 12 terraced properties nearby.
The houses come with front and back gardens, and the flats have south-facing balconies which can be opened or closed, allowing all-year-round use.
Gary Dalziel, Chief Executive of Elderpark Housing, said: "This is a hugely important development in terms of delivering much-needed rented housing for our community.
"The houses and flats create a new Govan landmark and fulfil Elderpark's commitment to keep on building rented homes for our community – a vision shared by our partners in this project.
"We greatly appreciate the commitment, support and funding from Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government in making this outstanding development a reality."
Next door to the new homes, the 19th-century iconic local building formerly known as Hills Trust School, has been redeveloped and restored as offices for Elderpark Housing.
The restoration of the former school in Golspie Street, which educated tens of thousands of youngsters in its long history, brings years of dereliction to an end, and gives this magnificent building a new lease of life.
The new housing and the school restoration were carried out by CCG (Scotland) Ltd while the architects were Glasgow-based MAST.
CCG Managing Director, David Wylie, said: "Nethan Street truly is a landmark project for Govan and is a wonderful example of urban regeneration in Glasgow. Our partnership's work has delivered these much-needed, modern and energy-efficient homes and a legacy of support for the wider community, including six full-time jobs, four trade apprenticeships, 12 work placements and £12,000 to support locally based projects.
