Exercise class has tenants sitting up and taking notice

Tenants at a retirement housing development in Stirling have been keeping fit with a novel exercise programme that is making everyone sit up and take notice.

The seated exercise class, at Bield’s Allan Park House, meets once a week and has been keeping tenants active and social for a year.

Everyone at the development is encouraged to get involved, with participants up to 96 years old taking part in regular sessions.

Angela Gray, Manager at Allan Park House, said:

“It’s fantastic to see so many people getting involved in keeping fit and active.

“Even though the class was originally monthly, everyone is keen to attend on a more regular basis, which is really great.”

The tenants use a range of equipment, including resistance bands, water bottles and small exercise balls.

Set up by the tenants at Allan Park House, along with one of Bield’s board members, Ingirid Deuling, the class is led by Ingirid once a month with the group meeting once a week to exercise by themselves.

The moves called ‘Move it or Lose it’ range from easy hands and feet exercises to some more challenging ones like moving a small ball around with their feet.

Staff and tenants hope the group continues to grow and be as popular with new and current tenants.
