Jackson Carlaw MSP opens £1.6M East Renfrewshire supported housing development
Jackson Carlaw MSP has officially opened Hanover Scotland’s brand new £1.6 million amenity housing development in East Renfrewshire which will provide state-of-the-art accommodation for older people in the area.
The Eastwood constituency MSP was shown round Waterford Court in Giffnock by Hanover Scotland’s Chief Executive, Helen Murdoch. The development features 12 two-bedroom, fully insulated and energy efficient flats for rent, with landscaped gardens and private parking.
Originally opened in 1997, the site previously contained 13 sheltered housing units for rent to older people. However, working in close partnership with both East Renfrewshire Council and the Scottish Government, Hanover Scotland identified a need for more amenity housing for rent in the area and began demolition of the previous site in January 2016.
The new 12-flat development consists of three two-storey blocks. Every flat is designed to maximise the use of space; compliant with housing for varying needs; well insulated; and features energy efficient individual gas combi boilers to reduce heating costs.
The development is located in a courtyard setting, with the first residents moving in in late 2016.
