Kingdom unveils plans for £6.5 million Cupar development
Kingdom Housing Association has finalised the land purchase for its site at Pitscottie Road, Cupar, and obtained full planning approval for a £6.5 million project that will provide 49 new homes for affordable rent to meet a range of housing needs.
The development will include 16 one and two bedroom homes, where 50% have been designed to amenity standard to meet the needs of older people or applicants with particular needs; one two-bed and one four-bed home designed to full wheelchair standard; 10 two-bed general needs homes; 20 three-bedroom family homes and one four-bed family home.
Bill Banks, Kingdom Chief Executive, said:
“We are delighted the project is progressing, particularly given the high need for affordable housing in Fife. There are currently over 9,000 active applicants on the Fife housing waiting list, and almost 350 of the applicants are on the list for a home in Cupar. This project will help meet the housing need in the area for many years to come.”
Bill added:
“The project will provide over £6.5 million investment in social housing and help contribute to economic development in the local area. As part of the project, it is proposed to deliver a range of community benefits, including schools initiatives, employment opportunities, apprenticeships and training placements.”
The project has been designed by local architects Montgomery Forgan and will be developed for Kingdom by Fife-based contractor Campion Homes.
The new homes have been attractively designed to meet modern day standards and to meet Kingdom’s high quality design criteria. The specification includes: enhanced thermal insulation standards; energy monitoring meters; water efficiency measure and photovoltaic panels.
These measures are designed to reduce energy use and fuel costs which will benefit both the tenants and the environment.
In addition, the project will be designed to recognise: Building Controls Silver Sustainability Standard; Housing for Varying Needs criteria; ‘Designing for Streets’ principles and Secured by Design accreditation.
The technical design approvals are being progressed and subject to all consents being available, the project will start on site later this summer.
