Leith art project shortlisted for equality & diversity award
Quay Community Improvements (Quay) and Port of Leith Housing Association (PoLHA) have been shortlisted for the Best Practice in Equality and Diversity Award at the Tenant Participation Advisory Service Scotland National Good Practice Awards 2018.
The Window Wanderland Leith project delivered by Quay and PoLHA caught the attention of the judges owing to the innovative way in which it brought together people of a wide variety of ages, cultures and backgrounds.
Window Wanderland saw the streets of Leith be transformed into outdoor art galleries in March, giving the residents and business owners the chance to work together to decorate their windows. Participants worked with local artists to create their window displays which captured their experiences of living in Leith.
Clare Halliday, Business & Communities Initiatives Manager at Quay, said:
“We’re all very proud of Window Wanderland Leith and the way in which it encouraged people to come together, get creative and celebrate their local area. It created a wonderful opportunity for people to meet other members of their community, some of whom they may otherwise never have spent time with.
“It was fantastic to see the resulting art trail, which was free for everyone to enjoy, put a smile on so many people’s faces. We’re thrilled to have received this recognition.”
The winner of the award will be announced at a ceremony on Friday 16 November.
