Lister Housing Co-operative joins EdIndex

EdIndex is the common housing register partnership of the City of Edinburgh Council and 19 housing associations and co-operatives.

Lister Housing Co-operative, today, has joined Key to Choice, the advertised lettings service part of EdIndex – the common housing register partnership of the City of Edinburgh Council and 19 housing associations and co-operatives.

Lister had allocated its vacancies using a ‘group-plus-points’ system, however, housing associations using this approach have the option to convert to the Key-to-Choice (a choice based letting approach) that is already used by the council and 16 of the other landlords in EdIndex.

Lister’s Management Committee wished to offer more choice and opportunity to those seeking housing or more suitable accommodation so carefully explored the benefits and implications of a possible switch to the choice system. With a recommendation from staff that its own distinct approach and sensitive policies could be continued within the advertised lettings system, approval was given to switch.

Unfortunately keen bidders on EdIndex may have to wait some time to bid on Lister’s properties. Lister Director Alistair Cant said:

“We only had three mainstream flat vacancies in the year just ended, and the last one was in September 2017, so vacancies are very scarce.

“However, we are very pleased to join Key to Choice and will work with our partners to house the homeless and others in priority need in Edinburgh.”

Available homes from EdIndex landlords are advertised weekly at www.keytochoice.co.uk
