Port of Leith opens its doors on Scottish Housing Day

Port of Leith Housing Association (PoLHA) opened its doors on 19 September to celebrate Scottish Housing Day, inviting its tenants along to find out more about how the organisation is run.

Tenants took part in a guided tour of the St Nicholas Court sheltered housing complex on Ferry Road where they were welcomed by members of staff and its Chief Executive, Keith Anderson.

Tenants also heard about the work PoLHA is doing with engaging the community as it develops its new strategy for 2020-2025, and were invited to take part in workshops which will determine the association’s priorities over the coming years.

Keith Anderson, Chief Executive at PoLHA, said:

“We first opened our doors to tenants last year and it was a great success. We are passionate about what we do and keen to share the work we do with our tenants.

“It’s also good to hear their thoughts on what they enjoy about their local community and if there are any improvements needing done.

“We were also pleased to be able to get our tenants’ thoughts to help shape our five-year strategy. As an organisation we are committed to providing high quality, energy efficient homes in areas people want to live in and be part of community.”

Viola Jones attended the event to find out more about sheltered housing, having moved to Edinburgh from Knottingley to be near her daughter.

She said:

“I have really enjoyed coming along today. It’s been very relaxing - everyone’s helpful and friendly. There is lots of information here for people on services in the local community.

“It’s been a great day, I have drank lots of tea, ate lots of cake and met some really nice people.”
