The award was presented at the virtual TIS National Excellence Awards for the transformation of the Nitshill development

Sanctuary Homes’ transformation of Newfield Square in Glasgow has been named Best Regeneration Development at the TIS National Excellence Awards.

The £25 million housing project received the honour at a virtual awards ceremony last Thursday.

A total of 178 homes were built at Newfield Square, helping address a shortage of local affordable housing.

Two of the properties have also been built to passivhaus standard, the top energy efficiency rating in Scotland, as part of a pilot project to deliver sustainable homes for the future.

As well as providing new homes, young people have been able to build a career through apprenticeship opportunities on the project with Sanctuary’s contractor CCG Scotland.

Peter Martin, Sanctuary’s Group Director – Development, said: “We’re delighted our regeneration of Newfield Square has been recognised with this award.

“This is another example of our successful work with Glasgow City Council to create high-quality affordable housing in the city.”

Councillor Kenny McLean, City Convener for Neighbourhoods, Housing and Public Realm at Glasgow City Council, said: “It is great to see another housing development in Glasgow receive the recognition it deserves, in this case one that contributes to the regeneration of Nitshill.

"These homes will give people wanting to stay in Nitshill the opportunity to buy a low-cost and high-quality new home in the area, and we were delighted to support this project.”
