SBHA pays tribute to founding Chair

SBHA pays tribute to Oliver Angus, founding Chair.

SBHA has shared the sad news of the recent death of Oliver Angus, the Association’s founding Chairman.

Oliver made an enormous contribution to social housing in the Borders both through his role as Chair of Roxburgh District Council’s Housing Committee, then the subsequent Scottish Borders Council’s Housing Committee.

He was pivotal in the creation of SBHA in 1999, chairing the Board from then until 2011. As Chair, Oliver used his skills and depth of experience to create a strong Board and steered SBHA through developing the idea of its creation to the reality of delivering the first Large Scale Voluntary Transfer Housing Association in Scotland in 2003, voted for and created by tenants, for tenants.

During the 3 years of negotiating the best transfer deal for tenants, he was the figurehead for the Vote Yes for SBHA campaign. His authority, credibility and respect amongst tenants and the Tenants Organisation ensured that the transfer was achieved.

Over his tenure, his partnership with Janice Cambridge (Chief Executive until 2010) was a testament to building the foundations and legacy for SBHA.

Julia Mulloy, Chief Executive of SBHA said:

“We are grateful for the energy, humour and enthusiasm he gave us, and the loyalty and dedication he has applied to his role to ensure that SBHA’s and tenants’ interests were given top priority. We will remember him with respect, esteem and affection for the qualities he brought us.”
