The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) has published the first wave of findings from The Scottish Third Sector Tracker.

The Scottish Third Sector Tracker is a research community made up of representatives from almost 600 organisations based across Scotland who share their experiences, views, and concerns in a quarterly survey.

The information gathered from the community informs and directs the way the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) and partner organisations, such as the Scottish Government, provide support to the sector.

The project provides insights into how Scotland’s charities, social enterprises and community groups were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this first phase key findings include:

  • Nearly all organisations surveyed faced challenges since the start of the pandemic
  • 57% of organisations stated that demand for their services had increased despite almost half facing financial issues. 71% of these organisations met most or all increased demand.
  • The vast majority of those surveyed saw emerging needs like mental and physical health from their services users and communities
  • 9% of organisations had to make staff redundancies to cope with the impact of the pandemic
  • 90% adapted or even increased certain existing services
  • 37% took on new staff in the last year.
