Single Building Assessments: Request for expression of interests

The deadline for submissions is 25 May 2021.

Posted In

Last month, the Scottish Government announced that subject to the outcome of the election, a Single Building Assessment programme will be launched in June with the aim of identifying buildings with external cladding which require remedial works. The assessments are to be undertaken on whole buildings, replacing the current External Wall System (EWS1) Reports for individual properties, and will be funded by the Scottish Government.

It is expected that the majority of inspections will show that buildings are safe, however where problems are identified, the assessment will help to identify the scale of remediation funding needed. The Scottish Government has received £97.1 million in consequentials which will be put towards the remedial works in addition to the further funding from the UK Government announced in February 2021.

All buildings, regardless of tenure, will be included and as part of the pilot phase of the assessment programme, the Scottish Government is now inviting expressions of interest from property owners and managers to gather information on buildings which are deemed to be at risk. This includes cases where a cladding or fire risk assessment has highlighted a risk to life as a result of a cladding system, materials used and/or poor construction. Further details on the pilot phase of the programme and the Single Building Assessment Expression of Interest Form can be found here. The deadline for submissions is 25 May 2021.
