Springfield Properties delivers 202 affordable homes
Homes delivered in partnership with Dunedin Canmore and Muirhouse Housing Associations.
House builder Springfield Properties has delivered its £23 million affordable homes development at Muirhouse, Edinburgh, in partnership with Dunedin Canmore and Muirhouse Housing Associations.
The prominent house builder of private and affordable properties has completed the final handover of 49-homes at the development, which is located near Muirhouse Shopping Centre.
The 202 affordable homes is now complete after construction began in 2012. The development – a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, cottage flats, and two and three-bedroom terrace homes – was delivered to Dunedin Canmore, part of the Wheatley Group, and Muirhouse Housing Association.
Each home is highly energy efficient, meeting sustainability building standards, which keep running costs low. Householders can also keep on top of their energy usage using the ‘Current Cost’ smart energy meters that have been installed in each property.
Tom Leggeat, Partnership Director, Springfield Properties Group, said:
“Muirhouse is one of our larger affordable developments and, through a successful placemaking programme, we are very pleased to deliver 202 homes, rejuvenating a derelict site into a thriving community in the process.
“Together with Dunedin Canmore and Muirhouse Housing Association, we’ve transformed the former BT Training Centre into a community development, incorporating open spaces, scenic views and energy efficient houses.
“This handover marks a real achievement for Springfield Properties – and we are proud to contribute to the wider regeneration of the local area.”
The new development connects with the wider Muirhouse community through safe and attractive new paths and roads that connect the new homes into the surroundings. It is part of a wider effort to revitalise Muirhouse and Pennywell through a mix of new housing and improved connectivity, breathing new life into the area.”
Dunedin Canmore Managing Director Hazel Young said:
“The new homes in Muirhouse are a great boost to the community.
“The new properties are providing cosy, modern homes for people, and we’re delighted that customers are so happy with them.
“We look forward to working with Springfield again in the future.”
Kevin Stewart, Minister for Local Government and Housing, said:
“Making sure everyone has a safe, warm and affordable home is central to our drive for a fairer and more prosperous Scotland.
“We are determined to accelerate and increase affordable housing supply across Scotland to reach our ambitious target of 50,000 affordable homes, backed by £3 billion investment during the lifetime of this parliament. I am therefore delighted that Springfield Properties, in partnership with Dunedin Canmore and Muirhouse Housing Association, has officially completed over 200 affordable homes.
“This is a great example of how partnership working can deliver high quality, energy efficient homes that are a welcome addition to the supply of affordable housing in Edinburgh.”
