Building contractors Stewart and Shields are delighted to announce they have joined SFHA as a commercial associate and look forward to an active relationship with the federation and its members.

Jim Brown, Director – Business Development, Stewart and Shields, said:

“As a family business that started in the late 1950s, we are fully committed to providing a personal service and achieving a high standard on all projects.

“The Shields family continue to control the business that was created by their grandfather and the strong family values used continue as the foundation on which the business has flourished and grown over the 50-plus years.”

Current works for housing associations and local authorities include EWI, roofing/rendering, new build, major conversions. With values ranging from £120k to £3m-plus.

Jim Brown continued:

“Stewart and Shields have worked in all parts of Scotland, including the west coast, Western Isles and most mainland locations. Dealing with major logistic challenges is second nature.

“Whatever our history, we do understand the future will bring new challenges, including modern methods of construction (MMC) and higher standards of energy efficiency.

“To this end, we are investing in training and technology to provide an effective and affordable Passivehaus standard for new build. We are also piloting Passivehaus techniques to create low energy housing in the conversion of existing buildings. The minimum target is to achieve Passivehaus air tightness standards.”

Please contact Stewart and Shields on 01436 672356 and speak to Jim Brown to discuss any projects that may have specific challenges. Stewart and Shields are always happy to discuss these with clients and their design teams and offer ideas and help to find solutions.
