Trust Housing and Playlist for Life work in partnership
Playlist for Life is a charity founded in 2013 by writer and broadcaster Sally Magnusson after the death of her mother, Mamie, who had dementia.
Playlist for Life has trained Trust Housing staff across Scotland to work with people to introduce music into their lives. The idea is based on more than 20 years of scientific research and creates personal playlists for anyone living with dementia.
Playlist for Life is a charity founded in 2013 by writer and broadcaster Sally Magnusson after the death of her mother, Mamie, who had dementia.
Trust staff will set up a Playlist for Life Information Point within their housing developments, bringing the power of the playlists to their tenants and the local community. At the Information Point, people can go to pick up leaflets and materials about creating and using a personal playlist. The personal playlists are created by exploring someone’s life story to gather the music that is most deeply attached to memories and emotions.
Trust staff will be able to work with everyone who loves or cares for someone with dementia on how to create and use their Playlist for Life.
Lisa Devlin, Trust staff member, said: “We can’t wait to get started. The training gave us an invaluable way of working with our tenants and local communities to help make their lives easier and happy – all through the power of music.”
Mary McDougall, from Playlist for Life, said: “We are delighted to have worked in partnership with Trust Housing Association to be able to set up Information Points across Scotland.
“The staff were so welcoming and, hopefully, had fun while learning to be Music Detectives. We hope to deliver a full Help Point training day with interested staff in the future.”
