West Dunbartonshire Council develops toolkit to help social landlords tackle domestic abuse
The campaign features a range of practical and legal measures to protect victims of domestic abuse and deal appropriately and robustly with perpetrators.
Following the launch of its ‘No Home for Domestic Abuse’ campaign, West Dunbartonshire Council has developed a toolkit to assist social landlords in implementing initiatives to tackle domestic abuse in their areas.
The ‘No Home for Domestic Abuse’ housing campaign features a range of practical and legal measures the Council is taking to protect victims of domestic abuse and deal appropriately and robustly with perpetrators.
The campaign is underpinned by a comprehensive programme of communication to ensure all stakeholders, particularly victims, are clear on the steps to be taken. The fundamental shift in approach is, where appropriate, to ensure that perpetrators are moved from the family home and victims and children are able to stay at home with an enhanced process to ensure their ongoing safety.
The campaign has quickly picked up momentum amongst West Dunbartonshire Council tenants and with their partners, and the Council has now developed a toolkit to allow other social landlords to implement similar initiatives of their own.
The toolkit is available free of charge and can be adapted to suit the specific circumstances of the landlord using it.
