WSHA given go ahead for Glasgow’s largest PassivHaus development
Works will commence in the coming weeks with the first tenants due to move in from Summer 2021.
West of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA) has received planning consent from Glasgow City Council for their landmark PassivHaus social housing development in Glasgow’s East End. The new homes will be at a former brownfield site on the corner of London Road and Springfield Road, and on the edge of the Commonwealth Village in the shadow of Celtic Park and the Emirates Arena.
The development, the largest of its kind in Glasgow, will comprise of 36 flats over six storeys and be created to meet PassivHaus Standard. This reduces the building’s carbon footprint and contributes towards the Scottish Government’s Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009 target to reduce carbon emissions by 2050. These ultra-low energy building require little energy use for heating or cooling which means low fuel bills for tenants and this in turn will help address fuel poverty.
As a Development Partner of Hubwest Scotland, the project was procured through their pre-procured Contractors Framework and CCG (Scotland) Ltd was appointed as the preferred developer. Funded by a £4.3million of grant from Glasgow City Council’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme and WSHA’s private finance, early ground works will commence in the coming weeks with the first tenants due to move in from Summer 2021.
