Available to book now: Scottish Rural & Islands Housing Conference
4 & 5 October, Thainstone House Hotel, Inverurie
Hosted by Osprey Housing, Grampian Housing Association and Castlehill Housing Association, this year’s Scottish Rural & Islands Housing Conference takes place in Aberdeenshire and is a must-attend event for rural housing association leaders and board members.
The conference will look at the key role of rural housing associations in sustaining communities, providing care and support for residents, and creating employment opportunities for young people. It will also be a chance to reflect on the investment that is needed in new housing and existing housing post-2021, as well as ensuring wider community investment in support for tenants.
With fuel poverty high on the political agenda, delegates will hear Bob Grant from Changeworks and Scott Restrick from Energy Action Scotland discuss new ideas to deliver higher energy efficiency, lower energy bills and reduced fuel poverty, all at the same time.
The conference will also feature a session with Vikki McCall, who will talk about how we can ensure that housing organisations are involved in joint planning and producing imaginative solutions to providing support and care to people in their homes.
Hamish Trench, Chief Executive of the Scottish Land Commission, will also lead a session at the conference on the land issue, revealing some of the ground-breaking work in reviewing the way that land is managed, owned and taxed, and discussing opportunities for rural and island housing associations.
Other conference highlights include a debate on what a future rural housing agenda should look like, and building on best practice using technology to ensure warm homes.
This year’s conference will take place on 4 and 5 October at Thainstone House Hotel in Inverurie. The pre-conference RIHAF meeting and study tour will take place on Wednesday 3 October.
Residential places start at £425 for RIHAF members. Day delegate rates start at £190 (RIHAF members) and £245 (non-members).
