Fire and smoke alarm standard – proposed delay to commencement date

The Scottish Government is seeking to delay the deadline requiring the installation of interlinked fire and smoke detectors to February 2022.

On 20 October 2020, the Minister for Local Government, Housing and Planning wrote to the Convener of the Local Government and Communities Committee of the Scottish Parliament and to all MSPs setting out that, in light of the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic, he would be seeking parliament’s approval to delay the commencement of the changes to the tolerable standard affecting fire and smoke alarms standards by 12 months.
