Help us halt the roll-out of Universal Credit: we need your evidence
Blog by Janine McKenna, SFHA Research Officer
The UK Government has reported this week that it will scrap the charges incurred whilst telephoning the DWP for Universal Credit claims. However, this is not enough. The SFHA is calling for a halt to the Universal Credit roll-out until it can be proved it is fit for purpose.
We need your evidence to make this case to the government. it will not listen to anecdotes; instead we need to present statistics and case studies that show the reality of the roll-out on both tenants and housing associations' arrears levels.
The link to the latest Universal Credit survey (collecting information for the month of August) can be found here. We urge you to give us your feedback. The closing date is 9am on Tuesday 24 October.
In addition to statistics, we are appealing for case studies. Case studies are vital for our lobbying work as they show the reality of how people are affected by this policy. If you have tenants who would be willing to talk to journalists or you are willing to share information on a tenant’s behalf, please contact Kirsten Walker, SFHA Media Adviser, on 0141 567 6221 or firstname.lastname@example.org
For print media and for politicians, case studies can be anonymised, but for broadcast, it is most effective if someone is willing to be filmed on camera or take part in an interview for radio.
Thank you for returning your information to us and please, keep it coming. Your data is what will help us change policy.
