Homelessness Code of Guidance interim update

Updating the code was one of commitments identified to help end rough sleeping and homelessness in Scotland in the Ending Homelessness Together Action Plan.

On 7 November, the Scottish Government published an interim updated version of the statutory Code of Guidance on Homelessness.

Updating the code was one of the Scottish Government commitments that was identified to help end rough sleeping and homelessness in Scotland in the Ending Homelessness Together Action Plan.

This plan, which has a £50 million associated budget, set out a programme of transformative change to help end homelessness in Scotland.

What has been published by Scottish Government is a factual update of the Code of Guidance and can be seen as a first step in bringing the code up to date, reflecting a person-centred approach to tackle, prevent and relieve homelessness. The code is updated for accuracy to reflect the legislative changes since the last version was published in 2005.

The next step for Scottish Government is to undertake a thorough review and overhaul of the code, as recommended by the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Group.
