Housing Bill intended to reverse ONS reclassification

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) will announce at the end of September its decision as to whether Scottish housing associations should be reclassified as Public Non Financial Corporations. This could potentially impact on housing associations' capacity to borrow.

The Scottish Government announced in September 2016 that it will bring forward a Housing Bill to take a number of deregulatory measures to the powers of the Scottish Housing Regulator. This represents similar measures to those taken in England when the ONS reclassified associations back in October 2015.
