Housing Innovation project update

Blog by Lorna Wilson, SFHA Innovation and Future Thinking Lead.

Many thanks to those of you who came along and helped make our Housing Innovation Factory on 22 January such a success. If you couldn’t be there, watch our short film to see what we got up to, and if you were there, look out for your starring role!

The outputs are feeding directly into the work of the innovation teams, which are now moving on to develop prototypes of new resources and support for SFHA members.

  • Home of the Future – Modern Methods of Construction. As part of SFHA’s partnership with Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC), Eildon Housing Association has been successful in securing funding to develop modern methods of construction, with the learning being shared across the sector. CSIC will continue to support our members to develop new ideas, including a 3D printing concept with Easthall Park Housing Association.

  • Home of the Future – Digital Asset Management. A resource is being designed to help members to manage their assets for the future. Members will be supported to develop their asset management approaches and to test a prototype digital asset approach.

  • Home of the Future – Inclusive Living. A definition of inclusive living is being developed. This will inform a call for ideas to design places and communities for everyone.

  • Home of the Future – Working with Nature. An exciting opportunity to access a package of support will maximise the benefits of nature in a new housing development. Look out for more on this soon.

  • Impact – Customer Engagement. A resource is being developed for our members to help them develop approaches to connect with, and understand, the lived experience of tenants, deepening and widening engagement in their communities.

  • Impact – Measuring Impact. A resource and programme is being designed with, and for, our members to help them to understand, measure and improve their social and economic impact.

  • Impact – Awareness Campaign. A campaign will highlight the impact of housing associations to key stakeholders and support our members to demonstrate their social value.

  • Service Transformation – Business and Culture Change. We are developing a business and culture change programme for members, including people, customer experience and service design, and technology. A leadership session on 5 February with chief executives and senior leaders, delivered by Remarkable, tested the ‘intent based leadership’ as one element of the programme.

  • Service Transformation – SFHA is helping to facilitate a sector-wide conversation on the future of housing services. A workshop pack and survey has been produced for you to use with your staff, tenants and other stakeholders. Feedback will inform a vision of a great housing association in 2040.
