Speakers:
Professor David Robinson is a human geographer whose practice centres on the application of geographical thought and practice to expose contemporary challenges in urban society and to critically analyse the responses of policy and practice. Much of his career has been spent at the interface of knowledge and action. Professor Robinson will speak on diversity of housing options for older people’s housing in a housing system shaped by markets rather than social policy.
Dr Vikki McCall is Senior Lecturer in Social Policy and Housing at the University of Stirling. Her work has included extensive research on housing and ageing, focusing on the role of front-line workers, service users, volunteers and the policy process. Dr McCall will be speaking on recent research projects considering whether co-production is part of the solution to older people’s housing.
Kris Peach is the Director of Extra Care at Housing & Care 21. He joined the organisation in July 2010 following a period of time working for a specialist supported housing provider. Kris previously worked for Claimar Care for over 10 years in operational and development roles, managing and commissioning new Home Care and Extra Care services. He will be talking about the challenges in delivering housing for older people and the response HC21 have taken in developing more homes for those that need it most.
The UK faces a rapidly ageing population who require housing that enables their health and well-being. How to address this challenge is one of the most important tasks facing national and local government, and housing providers across the statutory, private and housing association sectors. The speakers will reflect on these issues and how they are being addressed across the UK on 15th November and take questions from the audience.
There will be a drinks reception following the lecture and an opportunity to network with Housing Studies Association members and guests.
