Legislation on Schedule to allow ONS decision in September

Regulations will go before a plenary vote in Parliament on the evening of 18 September.

The Local Government and Communities Committee of the Scottish Parliament has approved the final Regulations necessary to enact the Housing (Amendment) (Scotland) Act 2018.

The Regulations now go before a plenary vote in Parliament on the evening of 18 September and, if approved (a likely outcome following the Committee's recommendation), the Minister will then sign the instrument immediately afterwards, bringing the Act officially in force.

Immediately following the vote, the Scottish Government will contact ONS officials to advise them - with a view to their Economic Statistics Classification Committee (ESCC) considering the following day (Wednesday 19th September).   The Committee will then make recommendations to the ONS Chief Economist who will make the final decision.

It is expected that the decision to reclassify RSLs as private bodies will be announced shortly thereafter, and SFHA will keep members updated.

The minute of proceedings from the 12 September meeting of the Local Government and Communities Committee is available on the website of the Scottish Parliament.
