RIHAF is pleased to announce that Loreburn Housing Association is this year’s host of the Scottish Rural and Islands Housing Conference.

Lorraine Usher, Chief Executive of Loreburn Housing Association, said: “Loreburn Housing Association is delighted to be hosting the 2019 Scottish Rural and Islands Conference in Dumfries.

“We chose to host the conference, because South West Scotland is an often-overlooked area of the country, and, with so much to offer, an opportunity to showcase our region was warmly welcomed.

“Loreburn Housing Association has 2,500 homes, an ambitious development programme and a creative, innovative team of amazing people.

“We came out of SHR Regulatory Intervention Regulation in 2014 and, since then, have gone from strength to strength.

“We have worked closely with Dumfries and Galloway Council and the Integrated Joint Board to shape a housing development programme that responds to the strategic challenges of this region, including housing an ageing population, addressing youth unemployment and tackling fuel poverty.  Many of the issues we face will be challenges other rural associations will be addressing, so we look forward to the conference as a chance to share ideas and thinking.”

This year’s conference will explore how to engage with communities, how to make rural communities sustainable and more.

Instead of the usual pre-conference study tour, Loreburn will present a showcase of its work on housing, fuel poverty and an ageing population. Then in the evening, it will host a get together, complete with fish and chips wrapped in Loreburn Housing Association newspaper.

This year’s conference takes place on 31 October and 1 November at Easterbrook Hall, Dumfries, with the RIHAF showcase taking place on Wednesday 30 October.

Residential places start at £425 for RIHAF members and £495 for non-members. Alternatively, you can attend as a day delegate, with prices starting at £205 (RIHAF members).
