Minister to address delegates at this year’s Scottish Rural & Islands Housing Conference

4 and 5 October, Thainstone House Hotel, Inverurie

Kevin Stewart, Minister for Local Government and Housing, will address delegates at this year’s Scottish Rural & Islands Housing Conference. Hosted by Osprey Housing, Grampian Housing Association, and Castlehill Housing Association and sponsored by Stewart and Shields, this is a must-attend event for rural housing association leaders and board members.

The programme will look at the key role of rural housing associations in sustaining communities, providing care and support for residents, and creating employment opportunities for young people. It will also be a chance to reflect on the investment that is needed in new housing, maintaining and improving existing housing, and support for tenants post-2021.

With fuel poverty high on the political agenda, delegates will hear Bob Grant from Changeworks and Scott Restrick from Energy Action Scotland discuss new ideas to deliver higher energy efficiency, lower energy bills and reduced fuel poverty – all at the same time.

The conference will also feature a session with Vikki McCall, who will talk about how we can ensure that housing organisations are involved in joint planning and producing imaginative solutions to supporting and caring for people in their homes.

Hamish Trench, Chief Executive of the Scottish Land Commission, will also lead a session at the conference on land issue, revealing some ground-breaking work in reviewing the way that land is managed, own and taxed. He will also discuss opportunities for rural and island housing associations.

Other highlights of the conference include a debate on what the future rural housing agenda should look like, and building on best practice using technology to ensure warm homes.

This year’s conference will take place on 4 and 5 October at Thainstone House Hotel in Inverurie. The pre-conference RIHAF meeting and study tour will take place on Wednesday 3 October.

Residential places start at £425 for RIHAF members, and day delegate rates start at £190 (RIHAF members) and £245 (non-members).
