Money Advice Service to launch report in Financial Capability Week
Money Advice Servicesw launches report and sets up a webinar for Scottish Financial Capability Week, 13-19 November.
The Money Advice Service will be to launching a new report, Numeracy and Financial Capability: Exploring the Links, as part of Scotland’s Financial Capability Week, which runs from November 13-19.
The report is the first of its kind to explore the link between numeracy and people’s ability to manage money day-to-day, to plan for and respond to life events and to deal with financial difficulties. There are a number of potential implications for how different sectors respond to the findings.
Financial Capability Week is an annual event which celebrates, showcases and amplifies the work underway to improve financial capability and ultimately to improve financial wellbeing. It is an opportunity for a wider range of organisations such as housing associations and cooperatives to demonstrate their commitment to promoting financial capability and a support pack is available for all who would like to participate. A Money Advice Service spokesperson explained: “We all work with numbers every day. We check our change, compare prices, look up train times and work out how to split bills. Some people - those who are highly numerate - do this easily and without deliberation. However, across the UK, based on a representative sample, around 11 million working age adults are overconfident in their ability to use numbers, and a further 7.5 million lack both confidence and ability.”
Michael Royce and Helen Pitman, Money Advice Service, will be presenting key findings from the report in the Webinar as part of the Scottish Financial Capability Week. This webinar will be useful for (but not restricted to) Employers, Unions and providers of workplace support services. Also, financial education providers and awarding bodies for maths and/or numeracy qualifications, adult learners and apprentices. Also, money guidance, pension guidance and debt advice agencies along with academia.
The webinar is hosted and facilitated by the Improvement Service (www.improvementservice.org.uk) To register please follow the link here.
