Today and tomorrow Positive Action in Housing are running their annual Winter Destitution Surgery.

Donations will allow the registered charity to provide emergency crisis payments, food cards, hygiene packs and bus passes to people fleeing war and persecution who find themselves at risk of destitution or hunger. They will also be providing books for children and hot soup and homemade bread.

Last year the charity saw 269 families and individuals over two days to see them through Christmas and New Year. This year they expect to receive 400 referrals. Positive Action in Housing are assisting vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers from Syria, Eritrea, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen and elsewhere.

At this years’ winter surgery, the charity are offering crisis payments to destitute refugees in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London and elsewhere across the UK through their Room for Refugees (RFR) Hosting scheme. RFR finds temporary shelter for refugees in the homes of volunteers while they try to rebuild their lives. As a result they require financial donations to assist families and individuals at risk over Christmas and throughout the winter period. All donations will go directly assisting those in need.

Everything we do is only possible thanks to the compassion and humanity of the thousands of people who like us couldn’t stand by and do nothing in the face of the biggest humanitarian crisis since world war two.

You can make a financial donation to Positive Action in Housing's (Scottish Registered Charity No SC027577) Winter Refugee Crisis Appeal by following this link

Or, go to www.paih.org/donate for other ways to donate, including standing orders, BACS Payments and where to send cheques.

Finally, if you wish to register to host refugees temporarily in your home or property to help individuals and families progress out of hopeless situations, and to engage in a life transforming experience for yourself, please register at www.roomforrefugees.com
