Prevention of homelessness duties consultation analysis published

By Eileen McMullan, SFHA Policy Lead.

The analysis of the recent Scottish Government consultation on prevention of homelessness duties has been published. There was widespread support for the package of proposals, recognising the importance of early intervention and enabling a joined-up approach to prevention. There was support for a duty on public bodies to prevent homelessness and for new duties for integration authorities, social care and local authorities. For social landlords, the proposed duties to act earlier were also widely supported.

In SFHA’s response, like many others, we broadly supported the package of reform but highlighted the need for significant investment in public services, homelessness and housing to deliver the proposals. The analysis will form a good basis for taking the proposals forward, and we look forward to seeing the Scottish Government’s response.
