Scottish Rural and Islands Housing Conference: available to book now

30 October–1 November.

Posted In

The Scottish Rural and Islands Housing Conference covers a range of topical issues concerning rural housing and communities in Scotland. As ever, the conference aims to update and inform delegates of the changes and initiatives that are taking place and provide an opportunity for frank and open debate.

This year's event will discuss the social and economic benefits rural housing associations contribute to their local communities, care and support for residents, and opportunities for young people.

The conference will be held over two venues, with the meeting and dinner at Easterbrook Hall and accommodation at the Holiday Inn Dumfries which is adjacent to the conference venue.

The pre-conference RIHAF meeting will take place on Wednesday 30 October as well as the study tour hosted by Loreburn Housing Association.

The conference also sees the return of the RIHAF Development of the Year Award. The award is an opportunity for rural housing associations across Scotland to enter their best developments.

The award is easy to enter. Entrants are asked to create a PowerPoint with a maximum of five slides which include good quality images of the development and explanatory text. Ideally, there should be images on each slide, with either bullet points or short descriptions that highlight the main points of the development. This should be emailed to kdevin@sfha.co.uk or mstephen@sfha.co.uk by 16 October 2019.

Entrants should also include their organisation’s logo, name of the development, when it was built and its location. Please also highlight any issues such as design features, community involvement, sustainability, and, in particular, why your project should win.

To enter, the development must:

  • have been completed onsite between March 2018 and March 2019
  • be located in a rural location
  • contain a significant proportion of affordable rented housing

All entries will be displayed throughout the event, and delegates will choose a winner to be announced on the Friday morning of the conference.

RIHAF would like to thank this year’s main conference sponsor, Stewart & Shields for its support.

The conference will be of interest to those with an interest in rural housing issues, including staff and committee members from housing providers.

Residential bookings are from £425 for RIHAF members or £495 for non-members. For more information, or to book your place, please visit the SFHA website.
