SFHA announces strategic event series for sector leaders

Housing Now, Housing's Future is a series of high-level virtual events for senior staff and governing body members which will ensure our sector continues to thrive and remains resilient.

The social housing sector is facing unprecedented challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and it’s never been more important that senior staff are equipped to deal with immediate priorities and to anticipate the future.

SFHA has created Housing Now, Housing's Future, a series of high-level virtual events for senior staff and governing body members which will ensure our sector continues to thrive and remains resilient.

One event, four days

Taking place over four half-day sessions in February and March, each event will feature keynote addresses, panel debates and group discussions, covering the most pressing challenges for us in 2021 and beyond.

The events will feature speakers from the government as well as the third, public, private and housing sectors, including housing colleagues from across the world.

Join us in 2021 to learn and share experience and play your part in shaping the social housing sector’s future.

Thursday 4 February 2021: Climate Change and Sustainability

This is a key year for the journey to net-zero; the Scottish Government has now published its Heat and Buildings strategy and updated its Climate Change Action Plan, and, at the end of 2021, Glasgow will host COP26.

While the social housing sector is already leading on addressing climate change and promoting sustainability, the conference will provide an opportunity to look at best practice and lessons learned. It will also discuss how social landlords can do more, including with support from SFHA and its key partners.

Thursday 18 February 2021: Poverty and Inequality

The Covid-19 pandemic has only served to underline the important role housing associations and co-operatives play as community anchor organisations. The impact of the crisis is felt even more acutely by those who were already impacted by persistent poverty and inequality in our society. This impact would have been even greater had it not been for the support provided by housing associations through their existing service delivery as well as additional funding provided by the Scottish Government.

The event will explore how organisations are supporting tenants through the crisis, thanks to Scottish Government funding facilitated by SFHA. You will also discover new ways in which housing associations can support tenants to address the impact of poverty and inequality.

Thursday 25 February 2021: Digital Empowerment and Leadership

Digital and data will play a pivotal role in delivering better outcomes for all sectors, organisations and, most importantly, the people of Scotland.

In 2020, digital played a critical role in allowing us to continue running our organisations, communicating with stakeholders and delivering services for people and communities.  Processes were deployed at speed, and lessons have been learned.  Now is the time to embrace the change that will shape our organisations for the future and ensure we can overcome the challenges ahead.

We will focus on how leaders can digitally empower their staff and organisations, discussing what comes next – the crucial factors to consider and the ultimate benefits for organisations and tenants – and how our sector can become industry-leading in using technology and digital skills.

Thursday 4 March 2021: Our Sector, Our People

People are at the heart of what we do, and our people shape our values, how we operate and how we, as a sector, are perceived. The event will discuss staff and board succession planning, housing as a career,  sector culture, and diversity and inclusion.

This event aims to explore, provide food for thought and highlight different perspectives on key topics and issues facing the social housing sector in Scotland in 2021 and beyond.

Why attend?

Join senior colleagues from across the social housing sector, and beyond, to explore  current key issues, challenges and opportunities.
