SFHA Development Conference: speaker interview with Andrea Finkel-Gates

Ahead of our Development Conference, taking place on 15 March at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, we asked our speakers some questions about what they'll be discussing during their session and what they think housing will look like by 2040. Andrea Finkel-Gates, Chief Executive at Scotland's Housing Network, shared her thoughts with us.

What are you discussing at the conference and why is this an important issue?

I am discussing Scotland's Housing Network’s Development Value for Money tool. This is a product that is available to all Scotland's Housing Network members from 1 April 2022. It will provide landlords with an analysis of cost, time and quality indicators, at project level. It is important as it allows landlords the opportunity to assess and benchmark the value for money in development projects, and it provide landlords with the intelligence needed to make improvements to the value for money in their development programme. It also facilitates an opportunity for landlords to share challenges and to highlight good practice.

What does Scotland's social housing sector need to be able to achieve the Scottish Government's target of 110,000 affordable homes by 2032?

Adequate funding, an adequately skilled workforce and investment in modern methods of construction.

What do you think our homes will look like by 2040?

Green, connected, high-quality, adaptable flexible spaces – to allow for modern ways of living and working.
